Spent Tuesday Sept 14th riding around the lease with Henry the engineer/geologist in his new truck, burning cigarettes and solving all the world's problems while servicing the wells and looking at the locations for the new ones; it was grand! Got an invite to dinner from Charles, the operator, but had already made plans to make it to Big Spring tonight for a meeting with Alison tomorrow to go over apples to apples before hiring her new company as my 3rd property manager in as many years. If this one doesn't work out I may have to bail and take a loss so fingers crossed!

Made it to Big Spring and put myself to sleep in the usual manner, over to meet with Alison around noon the next day and done the deal after thoroughly wrenching her brain till mostly nothing but apples came out. Headed out after that toward Carlsbad, NM and stopped along the way to take a picture of a huge field of a mystery crop that I didn't ever remember seeing growing up in my OH farm days. There were huge fields of this stuff all over the place ever since NB.
Got into Carlsbd not long after dark. Noted LOTS of oil well drilling rigs out there in the desert. No rooms in Carlsbad to be had for some kind of convention going on so decided to press on a little north to Artesia and got a fine place there. Met a guy who was originally from CA but retired in AZ now and goes around setting up the xmas displays in stores all over the place this time of year. Never thought of that before: all the elves it takes to put up those decorations! Be interesting to take note to see if the smaller towns gotta get theirs up earlier in the season before all the elves get busy on the bigger stores.

Thu 9/16 headed outta Artesia bound for ABQ on 82W, up through Lincoln Nat'l Forest and then down into Ruidoso via 244W->70N and stopped for food and fuel. Lots of cool scenery but noticed way too many motorcycles out for a weekday then remembered the Ruidoso Rally from going near here last year about the same time. Got into town and there were all kinds of interesting looking cycles, guy at the gas station told me how to get to where the rally was so I decided to go past there and shoot a picture. Pretty funny that someone with a big camera shot one of me as I was leaving!

Outta Ruidoso on 37N->380W and snapped a picture of what that looked like coming back down into the desert, pretty cool.

Burned a cig in Carrizozo then up 54N->55N->Mountainair. Interesting little town but sure don't think I'd wanna live there! Stopped at the only gas station and drank some red bull and scarfed a sandwich and beat it on up 55N->337N as it was getting cold and dark. Sorry I didn't get to see the last part of 377N just on the other side of the mountains from ABQ, it looked pretty interesting! Not much between Mountainair and there besides small Indian reservation towns, no gas for sure! Finally made it into ABQ beat to heck from riding all day and parked Triksie in Phil & Cindy's (oooold friends) garage and proceeded to drink sleeping medicine till it worked.

Cindy decided my visit was a good excuse for a party and so it was. I decided the best way to capture the celebration was to get everyone to pose with Triksie while I practiced using the timer on my camera so we could all be in the picture.

Then there was the story about the terds and butts. Phil and Cindy use an old cinder block on their back deck as an ashtray when people like me come to visit and they end up smoking. Something keeps taking the butts outta the cinder block and piling them up along with terds nearby. That is WEIRD.

Was gonna leave on Sun 19 Sep but the weather said otherwise so ended up staying another day and getting some chance at recuperation from all the celebrations. It was good.
